Richard James, who will be leading the courses, has an international reputation for his knowledge and understanding of how young children learn and play chess. Richard also has a unique talent for assessing and understanding children, and knowing what will excite them and make them laugh. Richard is the author of the best-selling book Chess for Kids (Right Way Books) and the webmaster of the world-renowned chessKIDS academy website. Richard believes that young kids should learn chess slowly, one piece and one concept at a time, and should not be encouraged to start too soon. After all, if you're teaching a child to read you do so one letter or sound at a time. And if you're teaching maths you start with addition before moving onto subtraction, multiplication and division, and you start with small numbers before moving onto larger numbers. Richard is also interested in working with schools who are sympathetic to his views on junior chess and is available for private individual and small group tuition in the Twickenham area |
